BYD, the world's largest electric vehicle manufacturer, and Chinese tech giant Huawei have announced a joint collaboration on autonomous driving, a move that is expected to give BYD an edge in this rapidly evolving field and boost sales of its premium vehicles.
On August 27, both companies announced the partnership almost simultaneously. Huawei revealed that the collaboration focuses on the intelligent driving development of BYD's Fang Cheng Bao brand. The first product to emerge from this collaboration will be the upcoming Fang Cheng Bao Leopard 8 model, which will feature Huawei’s QianKun Intelligent Driving ADS 3.0 system.
Chinese media have commented that this partnership marks a deep integration of BYD’s Fang Cheng Bao brand with Huawei’s intelligent driving technology. The collaboration goes beyond technical integration, representing a powerful combination of market strategy and brand potential, with the aim of achieving a "1+1>2" impact on brand influence.
According to publicly available information, Huawei's QianKun Intelligent Driving ADS 3.0 not only supports various interactive methods such as voice control and gesture recognition, but it also intelligently adjusts the vehicle’s status based on the user’s driving habits and road conditions. Additionally, the Leopard 8 offers a seamless parking-to-parking experience, enhancing the overall driving experience.
Apart from its intelligent driving technology, the Leopard 8 is equipped with a 2.0T longitudinal high-power engine, dual electric motors at the front and rear, and BYD's DMO Super Hybrid Off-Road Platform. Supported by the full-featured Yun Nian-P Intelligent Hydraulic Body Control System, the vehicle delivers impressive performance.
Regarding future collaboration, BYD stated that Huawei’s QianKun Intelligent Driving system is currently only available in the Fang Cheng Bao brand. However, the system will be integrated into future models of the Fang Cheng Bao lineup as well.
